Women's Hockey loses 3-2 at Penn State in Game One of AHA Semifinal
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – RIT senior forward Athena Vasdani and graduate student forward Nicole Ness each scored a goal in the No. 4 Tigers 3-2 loss to No. 1 Penn State in game one of the Atlantic Hockey America semifinals, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn State's Tess Janecke scored 16 seconds into the first period to give the Nittany Lions the lead.
- Janecke scored her second goal of the game at 3:49 of the opening frame to give Penn State a 2-0 lead.
- Pickering had her chance from the slot at 5:33 blocked by a Penn State defender.
- RIT fired three shots on goal in the opening frame and senior goalie Sarah Coe made 12 stops in net.
- Junior forward Jaidan Fahrny and sophomore forward Addie Alvzrez each had shots on target early in the second period saved by Penn State goalie Katie DeSa.
- Maddy Christian scored a short-handed goal at 10:01 of the second to give Penn State a 3-0 lead.
- Vasdani scored at 19:36 of the second period to cut the deficit to 3-1, scoring on a wrist shot from the boards.
- Ness scored a power play goal at 4:14 of the third period to cut Penn State's lead to 3-2. First year forward Brac Kelley fired a shot from the point. The rebound came to Ness in the slot and she one-timed a shot in to make it a one-goal game.

- Penn State outshot RIT 33-16
- Kelley and Fahrny each had two assists.
- The Tigers went 1-for-4 on the power play while Penn State was 0-for-3.
- Coe finished with 29 saves in net.
