Women's Volleyball downs Oswego, 3-1, in home finale
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior middle blocker Catherine Vento logged 12 kills with zero attack errors for a .571 hitting percentage and seven assisted blocks in a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-15, 25-16) victory over visiting Oswego, Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened a 7-3 lead to start the first, but Oswego answered with a 7-1 run to take a 10-8 lead. The Lakers later led 15-13, but the Tigers scored five of the next six points for an 18-16 lead. Oswego retied the match, 18-18, but RIT finished the set on a 7-1 run, including three kills by sophomore outside hitter Mia Gerber, to earn the opening win.
- Trailing, 4-3, early in the second, Oswego put together a 9-2 run for a 12-6 edge. The Lakers took their largest lead, 15-8, before RIT scored a 4-2 run to pull back within five, 17-12. Oswego used a 7-3 surge to reach set point, 24-15, and eventually put the set away after six-straight RIT points.
- RIT started the third with a 7-1 run but Oswego battled back within one, 11-10, following a 9-4 run. The Tigers pulled away with an 11-1 surge, including three kills by sophomore outside hitter Macie Jolliffe, for a decisive 22-12 lead.
- The Tigers built a 10-2 lead in the fourth, but Oswego scored five of the next six points to pull back within four, 11-7. RIT responded with four-straight points to kick off a 9-3 run for a 20-10 lead that proved insurmountable.
MATCH NOTES
- Gerber totaled a team-high 13 kills, followed by Vento and Jolliffe with 12. Jolliffe also added 12 digs and four assisted blocks.
- Graduate student setter Sydney Neff's night included 45 assists and four assisted blocks, while classmate Hailey Blixt logged a match-high 16 digs.
- Sophomore defensive specialist Jada Lee was credited with a career-high five service aces to go along with six digs.
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT finished the regular season with a pair of road matches this Friday (Nov. 8) at St. John Fisher (5:00 p.m.) and Saturday (Nov. 9) at Brockport (10:00 a.m.)
