No. 3 Men's Lacrosse takes down Ursinus, 20-4

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – RIT senior Clifford Gaston totaled five goals and an assist to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 20-4 victory over Ursinus in a game played at Penn State's Panzer Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Graduate student Seth Grottenthaler tallied 1:16 into the contest before senior Eric Burbank scored unassisted just over a minute later for an early 2-0 lead. Gaston tallied his first goal with 5:53 left in the first before junior Tyson Allison scored in transition off a Grottenthaler feed with 2:09 on the clock.
  • Gaston scored two minutes into the second quarter before Allison tallied his second of the game 1:04 later for a 6-0 lead. Gaston and graduate student Ian Dinga scored in a one-minute span for an 8-0 lead with 4:41 left in the second, before sophomore Adam Wong tallied at 1:48 to push the Tigers to a 9-0 halftime lead.
  • Goals by senior Nate Senez and senior Ethan Harkins to start the third quarter yielded an 11-0 RIT lead with 12:15 on the clock, before Ursinus got on the board at 11:11. Grottenthaler and Gaston responded with goals in the next two minutes for a 13-1 lead, before goals by Gaston, Harkins and senior Jack Budway pushed the Tigers to a 16-1 edge.
  • RIT led, 19-1, to start the fourth quarter. Ursinus scored two goals before first-year Turner Anderson tallied with 5:40 remaining in regulation to close the Tiger scoring. 

GAME NOTES

  • Harkins finished the game with four points on two goals and two assists while Allison (2G/1A), Dinga (1G/2A), Grottenthaler (2G/1A), Senez (1G/2A) and Budway (2G/1A) all finished with three points.
  • Fifth-year Drew Leahy led all players with seven ground balls as RIT finished with a 43-27 edge.
  • Junior Alex Zborowski totaled four saves in 38:49 of work to earn the victory in goal as RIT finished the game with a 42-26 advantage in shot attempts, including 31-12 on goal.
  • RIT won 17-of-28 faceoffs, led by an 8-of-9 showing by fifth-year Nick Farrell

WHAT'S NEXT
RIT plays two games at the Mustang Classic next weekend in Owings Mills, Md. The Tigers are scheduled to face No. 13 Dickinson on Friday (Mar. 14) at 1:45 p.m. before squaring off with No. 1 Tufts on Saturday (Mar. 15) at 6:15 p.m. in a rematch of last year's national championship game won by the Jumbos, 18-14.
